Guatemalan coffee has saved Guatemala's economy in the past century. At present, there are about 120000 coffee producers, which are the main export items. Almost all regions grow coffee beans, which are monopolized by Arabica beans. Guatemala has 300 different microclimates, coupled with stable rainfall and mineral-rich fertile soil, which has greatly helped coffee cultivation and is the most ideal among Central American countries since the early 1990s. The country is divided into eight producing areas for producing alpine hard beans (S.H.B). The main harvest season is from December to March of the following year. Higher altitude producing areas such as Vivette Nan fruit can be shipped as long as they are harvested and processed, usually during the period from April to July.
Vivette Nanguo is an important coffee town in the northwest. Since ancient times, Rio Azul and Antigua are two important coffee producing areas in Guatemala. They are world-famous for their fine citrus acid and special chrysanthemum tea flavor. Most of the coffee is grown by local residents. The Blue River of Vivette is located in the remote town of Jacaltenango. The members, who live within an hour and a half of walking around the treatment plant, finish work and begin a series of water treatment operations around 3pm every day. Recently, Oxfam has provided technical and administrative assistance to teach an income-increasing project, Honey. They are changing in the hope of sustainable development and self-sufficiency.
