Louis Huahua is a father of three. He married Zenobia Charca, a coffee producer with a history of more than 20 years and won the 2008 Award for Excellence. He arrived at Alto Beni from Achacachi on the Bolivian plateau with his parents at the age of 10. Louis learned to make coffee when he was working with his parents as a child, but he never processed coffee. For this reason, it was a challenge for him to peel, ferment, wash and dry coffee. However, he encountered the challenge while working with the children and gave his wife advice when he arrived at the plantation from La Paz over the weekend. In order to participate in the 2008 Excellence Cup, he started working at 3am and went to bed at 11:00 in the evening.
His children help him after school and accept their homework after nightfall. Faced with so much work, sometimes he wants to stop. He told us that it was really difficult. I was tired. I thought nothing I did was worth the trouble. I couldn't win because other men's producers were drinking coffee. I only did what my husband told me, but I am really happy and proud now. My children will be happy to hear that we have won.
The winner does not know how much his coffee will be sold in the international market, but he is already dreaming what he will do with the money. The first thing he needs to do is to update his plantation and improve his production. The second is to realize the dream of his eldest daughter Elizabeth, who hopes to learn to speak English and study accounting when she graduates from high school.
