The Story of Kisi, Kenya
Kenya Kisi Cooperative is famous for its network of coffee cooperatives. The system produces significant consistency in planting methods mills and auctions in a network of about 150000 growers most of whom are small-scale farmers. The combination of high-altitude plateau topography and acidic soil in the main coffee areas of Kenya provides good growth conditions for Arabica coffee.
Peaberry, also known as caracoli, is a coffee bean. Usually, the fruit of a coffee plant ("cherry") contains two seeds ("beans"), which have a flat face to face, but sometimes only one of the two seeds is fertilized, and nothing in a single seed can flatten it. This oval (or pea-shaped) bean is called peaberry. Typically, about 5% of all coffee beans harvested are in this form. Contrast flat berries are often called common coffee beans. Peaberry coffee is particularly related to coffee from Tanzania and Kenya.
