Last Thursday morning, the Costa Rican government held a meeting of about two hours at the presidential palace and planned to register the coffee origin of "Caf é de Tarraz ú" with the European Union and the World intellectual property Organization (WIPO).

The registration process began when the President of Costa Rica promised on Saturday to instruct the competent authorities to rush ahead of other agencies to register the origin of "Caf é de Tarraz ú", with the aim of protecting the world's unique Tarazu producing area and Tarazu coffee.

Jonathan Lizano, director of the Industrial property Law Division of the Costa Rican National Registry, said that on Thursday, the National Registry would respond to a note issued by the Association of Tarazu Origin Management Committees, which would include a request to register appellations of origin with these international organizations.

"the Tarazhu situation is very special, and this response will formally confirm the origin of the coffee 'Tarazhu Coffee', which is very important."

Roque Mata, president of the Tarazhu Origin Management Committee Association, said he was surprised that people finally responded to the application, which took a long time. "for a long time, we have been organizing to pursue this goal because there are too many people who want to fake the name 'Tarazhu', which is harmful to our country of origin and consumers."

He stressed that Tarazhu, a coffee with a long history, had been favored and recognized by the British royal family, even in the Pope's speech. He remembered that more than 80 per cent of the coffee produced in the Los Santos region was sold on the international market.

Finally, he pointed out that this recognition ensures the originality and quality of Tarazu coffee. After thanking the President of the Republic and relevant agencies for their support, Roque Mata said excitedly: "this is the dream we have been fighting for for many years."
