The Nestl é Coffee Center recently signed a memorandum with the Tropical crops College of Yunnan Agricultural University on the coffee variety improvement plan in Pu'er City. The cooperation aims to improve the output and quality of coffee beans and increase the competitiveness and sustainable development of coffee cultivation in Yunnan.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Wang Hai, general manager of Nestle Coffee Center, said that the two sides will make use of their respective scientific research advantages to transplant new coffee varieties cultivated by the Yunnan Agricultural Department of Nestle Coffee to different regions of Yunnan for promotion experiments. It will take six years or more to screen out the best varieties for Yunnan.

In order to ensure the development of the coffee industry, Pu'er City first tried to establish Yunnan International Coffee Trading Center in 2014. In 2017, the project of Yunnan International Coffee Trading Center has invested more than 200 million yuan. The center has more than 1000 registered grower members, covering the main producing areas of Yunnan and Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, India and other countries, covering an area of 1.63 million mu. More than 80% of the coffee enterprises in Yunnan Province have become full members of the center. By the end of 2017, the center had traded 30000 tons of coffee, with a transaction value of 1 billion yuan, and collected and stored more than 60000 tons of coffee. "at present, the brand awareness of Yunnan coffee in the international coffee market is not enough, coupled with the relatively narrow market procurement area, farmers receive little market information, so the price of coffee is restricted by some large coffee enterprises." Shu Yang, general manager of the center, said that the Yunnan International Coffee Trading Center strives to make Yunnan coffee have a broader market space, really sell good coffee at a good price, and strive to increase the rate of Yunnan boutique coffee Pu'er coffee by more than 20% within five years. Let coffee cultivation to achieve "high yield and bumper harvest". Focusing on increasing agricultural efficiency and increasing farmers' income, Pu'er City constantly optimizes the agricultural industrial structure and layout, strives to strengthen the leading role of the coffee industry in poverty alleviation, and promotes the regional layout, standardized planting, and specialized production of the coffee industry. At present, the planting area of the city is more than 770000 mu, with an annual output of about 54000 tons, ranking first in Yunnan Province. Lu Han, director of the Pu'er Tea and Pu'er Coffee Industry Bureau, said: "the cooperation between Nestl é and the Hot farming Institute will combine international and local scientific and technological forces to enhance the awareness and competitiveness of the international Pu'er coffee market and bring greater benefits to Pu'er coffee growers."

According to reports, at present, Nestle Coffee Center has grafted and bred some seedlings. As a first step in cooperation, the two sides plan to carry out field trials in three counties and districts of Pu'er City in 2019.

It is understood that since the launch of agricultural technical assistance service projects and the opening of demonstration farms in Yunnan in the 1990s, Nestl é is stepping up efforts to provide technical support to Yunnan coffee producing areas to drive local farmers to develop coffee planting industry. In March 2016, Nestl é completed and opened the world's first coffee center covering an area of 33000 square meters.
