LIMU GERA MILL - GERA WOREDA, JIMMA ZONE - FAYSEL ABDOSH

At Gera Woreda, we partner with Faysel Abdosh, who has been operating a washing station since 2014. Limu Gera Mill has more than 75% of its coffee grown in shade. The remaining areas are surrounded by infrastructure and forests.

More than 100 native and leguminous plants are planted per hectare for shade. This is well above our shade certification requirements. The factory is afforested in different ways. Limmu farms practice micro-watershed rainwater harvesting, use organic compost fertilization, use mechanical ecological pulpers and solar dryers, and invest in employees.

The station serves 750 smallholder producers who collect coffee cherries and process them centrally at the factory. Coffee is first depulped and fermented underwater for 24-36 hours. After washing, dry on an elevated bed with shade for 10-12 days.
