Cuckoo in Guatemala Koban Coffee producing area

History of the manor

The Copan coffee producing area is located in Alta Verapaz province, 220km from Guatemala City, which is famous for its unspoiled natural environment and unique microclimate. The contrast between high-altitude mountains and high-humidity tropical rain forests makes this area always surrounded by dense clouds falling to form mist. The name "Koban" comes from the Q'eqchi language "Cob'An", which means "foggy place".

The region has some of the most amazing mountain views in Guatemala: stunning scenery, rich limestone landscapes, and misty rugged hills. Koban's highland climate and landscape are among the wettest and greenest in Guatemala, and the restless rain pours abundant water into the land and rivers, making the area a fascinating destination for adventures and ecological trips.

Koban is also one of the few breeding grounds for Quetzal (scientific name: Pharomachrus and Euptilotis). It is the national bird of Guatemala and the currency name of Guatemala. If you visit Guatemala, you can see the long-tailed birds with bright and bright tails in Biotopo del Quetzal.

This coffee is the chief recommendation of our cup testers from many coffees in the 2012-13 production season! It is specially selected for coffee connoisseurs who know how to taste coffee and those who are willing to explore outside the traditional well-known producing areas of Guatemala.

The coffee producing area is located in the cloud-shrouded forest in the depths of Alta Verapaz, a non-volcanic area covered with limestone and clay, with cool and humid environment. It is often shrouded in the famous "Chipi Chipi" (persistent drizzle). The mist moistens every inch of Koban, and the mist comes from the thick fog formed when the air of the humid tropical rain forest floats to the high altitude of Koban.

There are two seasons in the section: the rainy season and the rainy season with more rain. The annual rainfall here is the second highest in all coffee producing areas in Guatemala, with the heaviest rain from May to December. Most of the coffee in the Koban rain forest is planted on the special rolling hills of this area and grows harmoniously with the rainforest made up of local natural trees.
