Ethiopia

Although Ethiopia is an underdeveloped country in northeast Africa, it is a world-famous coffee producer.

Ethiopia has the most diverse coffee ecosystem in the world (forest coffee, semi-forest coffee, pastoral coffee and plantation coffee), which allows its rich Arabica genes to be preserved, combined with multiple treatments of sun, water and semi-water to present complex and varied flavors. It can be said that most of the "taste spectrum" of coffee producing areas around the world can be drunk here, reflecting Ethiopia's inclusive "taste of the king". In addition, Ethiopia is the cradle of Arabica coffee beans, growing coffee, roasting coffee and brewing coffee are unique cultural heritage.

Farmers used to mix coffee, elephant-leg bananas, grains, fruits and vegetables in their fields, and store the dried coffee fruit for use as currency on the one hand, and for friendship, weddings and funerals, religious activities on the other. Traditional Ethiopians even drank coffee to celebrate the birth of livestock.

Ethiopian Coffee Prices

A statement released at the International Coffee Organization's biannual World Coffee Producers Forum in Nairobi said coffee prices in the New York market were "impoverishing producers."

A statement signed by producer associations from Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, India, Vietnam, Central America and across Africa states: "The current crisis of economic sustainability for coffee producers needs to be resolved immediately before it becomes a humanitarian crisis."

Coffee is suffering from oversupply, particularly from brazil, the world's largest and most efficient producer of arabica beans. Brazil produced a near-record amount of Arabica coffee beans last year and expects to harvest even more beans in 2019-20. The depressed price environment has accelerated momentum in major coffee producing countries around the world to find pricing alternatives.

In Africa, Uganda is the largest coffee exporter in Africa and the eighth largest coffee producer in the world, mainly producing Robusta coffee. In addition, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya and Cameroon are all important coffee producing countries in Africa. In order to add value to the coffee industry chain, African coffee-producing countries actively increase investment in local coffee processing and try to carry out coffee wholesale and retail through e-commerce channels.
