What is the "Red Cherry Project"
As a barista or enthusiast, you should also have heard of the "tanned cherries" in Ethiopia. People who don't know it will think that "sun red cherry" is a kind of coffee bean, but in fact, it refers to the coffee bean in the "Red Cherry Project".
The Red Cherry Project (ORC) is a project to improve the quality of coffee beans on small-scale farms. The main aim is to encourage Ethiopian bean farmers to grow high-quality coffee beans and surprise bakers. Specifically, the Red Cherry Project encourages coffee farmers to pay more attention to every process of picking and processing coffee beans by raising the purchase price of high-quality raw coffee beans. The coffee beans produced in this way are of better quality and taste, and can be better recognized in the end market, thus balancing the relatively high purchase price of coffee.
In 2007, Trabocca, the largest raw bean manufacturer in the Netherlands, put forward the "Red Cherry Project" in pursuit of high-quality Ethiopian coffee beans. The plan requires that raw coffee beans be picked not only by red fruit, but also by hand, but this is only the most basic requirement.
The "Red Cherry Project" is only a way to enhance economic benefits for soybean farmers, and its deeper significance is to encourage coffee farms to pay more attention to the process of selecting beans, so that coffee beans can be sold at a relatively high price. Bean farmers can get a higher profit from it.
Red Cherry Action has water washing, sun-drying beans, half-washing, half-sun, experimental coffee, etc., the main producing areas are Yega Sheffield, Sidamo, Penga Forest, Lekanti, Kenbata, Irubabo, Hara, Lim, Coroga (Golocha was added in 2011, near Hara) and so on. The coffee beans in these producing areas are unique and can fully show the flavor of Ethiopian coffee.
