SAN SALVADOR
About Luis Emilio Valladarez
Luis Emilio Varadares, who started making coffee in 1960, inherited a small portion from his grandmother. When he started farming, it was very difficult to get to the local mill or even the town, because all the goods in and out of the farm had to be transported on horseback. He now owns three coffee farms in Nicaragua; Finca Miraflor, Finca San Salvador and Finca Buenos Aires. All three farms are designed to meet his vision of combining all aspects of the coffee production chain for everyone's benefit. He attached great importance to ensuring that the economic, social and environmental benefits of his farm were shared by local communities and every part of the coffee production cycle, which he believed ensured a long-term and sustainable business model.
