Last week, we visited our cooperative farmers in the Kiri Niaga and Kiambo regions of Kenya. With Kenyan Coffee, our goal is to establish a long-term cooperation with the focus of a single farmer producer on traceability. We will no longer source from large cooperatives with hundreds of farmers.
We believe traceability is the key to quality. In addition, the general farming methods in Kenya are very different from the other sources we studied here in April. It can be said that the most delicious coffee in the world comes from Kenya; however, the use of pesticides and other chemicals cannot be ignored.
Farmers are encouraged by cooperatives to focus on growing "as big as possible" coffee beans because they can make more money from them. To make a long story short, farmers don't drink their coffee and often don't know what the quality of good coffee is.
So we decided to buy coffee only from Kenya, which is 100% traceable to all the trees that have become part of our chosen coffee production. It is not easy to find it, but during our visit, we saw some light.
Hope we can bring you 100% traceable coffee next season, if not, we will not show Kenyan coffee in the 2020 season.
We can't just judge the quality of coffee by taste; we also need to look at the process behind the taste critically and honestly.
