Colombia is the most famous coffee producer in the world. However, not all Colombian beans are the same. This is a vast country with all kinds of landscapes, from rainforests to hilltops, two coastlines, and everything in between. With the change of land, the climate, harvest season and so on will also change.

I wanted to know more about coffee producing areas in Colombia, so I interviewed agronomist Juan Carlos Garcia Lopez (Juan Carlos Garcia Lopez) of the National Research Center of the Colombian Coffee growers Union (Cenicafe). Keep reading and see what I've learned.

Columbia Coffee: basic style

Juan Carlos told me that Colombia has 914000 hectares of coffee farms in five major regions and 19 subregions. In these, buyers will mainly find Katila, Marago Gyibug, Tabi, Typica, bourbon, Castillo, and Colombian varieties.

More importantly, the country's coffee production location is very good: it is close to the equator and its mountains can reach 2000 miles per hour. For example, the Sierra Nevada, the Santa Marta Mountains is one of the highest coastal mountains in the world.

Juan Carlos said that Colombia is also fortunate to have the Andes. Water flows from here into the country's basins, including the large basins of Cauca, Magda Lena and Narino. This creates a better environment for growing coffee; it is no coincidence that Cauca and Narino are well-known origins.

According to the Colombian Federation of Coffee growers (Colombian Coffee Association), coffee provides 800000 direct jobs nationwide and has a positive impact on 563000 families and the economy.
