The biodiversity here is achieved by three parts: coffee garden, animal husbandry and horticulture. Kimathi Institute of Technology bought the coffee farm in the 1950s, and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology officially took over in 2012. In 2013, a major rejuvenation program was implemented, which included replacing SL28 with new varieties with higher production capacity. At present, the main varieties in this area are Batian, Ruiru 11, SL 28 and grafted Ruiru 11. Among them, Batian is artificially cultivated, and it is also the most popular variety here. It has very deep roots and a wide range of extension, and is resistant to leaf rust and coffee anthracnose, so it has a higher yield. Batian began to produce earlier than other varieties in the past two years. The beans are big and the cup test results are very good. At the same time, it is also suitable for planting in most farmland. There is also a nursery with a capacity of 140000 seedlings, mainly of the above varieties, and the seedlings will be distributed to farmers in other local areas, of which 760 Ruiru species are grafted on the mother plant of SL28.

Hand-picked throughout the harvest process, through the supervision of a professional team to ensure the harvest of the fullest ripe red fruit; the use of water washing treatment, through a new energy-efficient peeling machine, but also to improve efficiency; and then after fermentation, sun drying reaches the standard water content. In order to ensure the quality, the laboratory will sample and measure at all stages of the treatment, accurately control the water content, and then evaluate the cup test results. The whole farm has about 100 employees, 70% of whom are women. The working environment is good and provides welfare and medical insurance. There are several different kinds of wild animals in the farm, including antelope, antelope, monkeys, rabbits, porcupines, jungle pigs and several kinds of birds.
