Introduction to Qianjie-pointed bourbon coffee
The Laurina species, originally found in the Reunion Islands, has been nearly extinct for many years because of the fragility of the plant species themselves. Laurina is a natural low-caffeinated variety. In botany, caffeine can enhance the resistance of plants to diseases and insect pests. Natural low caffeine content means that plants are more likely to get sick, making it more difficult to grow. The plant of Laurina is short and conical, and the beans are small and pointed, so Laurina is also called "Bourbon Pointu".
The bean is grown on the island of Reunion, an area of only 2512 square kilometers between Madagascar and Mauritius. It was discovered by the Portuguese in 1513, occupied by France in 1643, named Bourbon after the French royal Bourbon family, and became a French colony in 1767. it was not until the fall of the restored Bourbon dynasty after the French Revolution in 1848 that it was restored to the island of Reunion.
The first coffee trees in Reunion were shipped from the Yemeni port of Mocha in 1715, with a total of 40, but unfortunately only two survived, and the government adopted a rigid measure from 1719 to 1723. Legislation requires islanders to plant 200 mocha coffee trees a year, and anyone who damages them must be executed. At that time, it was also called Bourbon Island, and naturally the coffee produced here used that name.
The pointed bourbon is a variety derived from the island of Reunion, and the normal bourbon variety has a short round bean body, but in 1810 Rayloy, a coffee farmer on the island of Bourbon, found that there was a short coffee in the garden with smaller leaves, shaped like laurel leaves, and coffee beans were also more pointed and thinner and produced less than ordinary bourbon. Botanists confirmed that it was a new variety at that time, so they named her after the name of the person who found her. At the same time, because the two ends of the bean body are very sharp, it is also commonly known as "pointed body bourbon".
She is a natural semi-decaf coffee with only half the caffeine content of ordinary Arabica, the common Arabica caffeine content of about 1.2%, sharp body bourbon only 0.6%, but mellow, rich fruit notes.
Knowledge: another characteristic of pointed bourbon is its low production capacity, which is much lower than that of other coffee varieties, and is extremely vulnerable to disease caused by the external environment. For this reason, farmers in Bourbon gave up coffee in 1950.
