Qianjie-Coffee varieties introduction
We usually buy coffee often hear about Tibica, bourbon, Kent, SL28, SL34 and so on. Here we will introduce where they come from, the origin of their names, the origin of their varieties, as well as their agricultural and flavor features.
This is not a variety but a general term for many varieties, usually marked as "heirloom". Ethiopia, the birthplace of Arabica coffee, has the most complete gene pool in Arabica. Arabica coffee grown naturally in Ethiopia is likely to mutate and cross naturally to produce new varieties every day, and there is no accurate statistics on how many kinds of coffee. The main important types of coffee are now preserved at the Jima Agricultural Research Center in Ethiopia. Jima Research Center is also actively studying the cultivation of plantable varieties.
"heirloom" is the general name for coffee varieties in Ethiopia's forests and mountains.
Tibika is the first commercial variety to be taken away from the Arabian Peninsula and its origin is an unknown place in Yemen. It was introduced from Ethiopia in the mid-15th century and evolved in this place. And then taken to India. The Dutch brought Tibica to Java at the end of the 17th century, and then Indonesia introduced it. And eventually grow it all over the world. Morphologically, Tibica is conical in shape, with narrow leaves and slender fruits and seeds. Although some list the Jamaican Blue Mountains as a unique species, they belong to the same species genetically.
Bourbon is the second variety to be cultivated around the world after Tibika, which also originated in Yemen. The early French introduced Yemeni coffee, a local variety, to the then island of Bourbon, which is now called Reunion. It was first planted in Brazil in 1859 and soon spread around the world. The benefit is higher than Tibica. Now the famous Brazilian yellow bourbon is also mutated from this breed.
The original red bourbon gradually replaced Tibica in Central America because of its higher benefits than Tibica. Later, French missionaries brought Bourbon to Tanzania and gradually spread throughout East Africa. The bourbon tree is more round than iron, it has wider leaves and its fruit is more round.
Knowledge: Elaraby plus seed and Robasta seed are divided into individual coffee and Italian coffee according to the matching of coffee beans.
