Front Street-Dominica Coffee introduction

The Dominican Republic has also experienced a history of unrest and poverty. In 1844, Dominica officially declared its independence from the rule of Haiti. In 1865, the Spanish invasion was repelled. At present, the country implements democratic elections, but so far it has not formally established diplomatic relations with China, but has maintained the so-called "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan. It seems that this has nothing to do with coffee, but in fact, it still has an impact. The exchanges between the two countries that have not established diplomatic relations are subject to many restrictions in all aspects, of course, it will also affect our coffee trade.

Coffee from Dominica is mainly exported to the United States because of its superior quality, and it is also imported from many countries in Europe, which is rarely seen in our Chinese mainland.

The earliest coffee in Dominica was introduced from Martinique (the overseas province of France), dating back to the early 18th century. Coffee from Martinique in the 1820s was mostly grown in mountainous areas of about 1000 meters, mainly in the northern mountains, central mountains, south, southeast and east. The best production sites are the Barahona region in the southwest and the Cibao Valley north of Santiago, Dominica's second largest city.

But Juncalito and Ocoa also produce a high-quality coffee, Santo Domingo coffee, of which Santo Domingo and Barney's coffee is world-famous and almost synonymous with domiga coffee. It is characterized by fresh and elegant, full particles, excellent acidity and pleasant fragrance.

Coffee in Dominica has two main characteristics, which vary according to the region and variety of coffee produced. The Tibica coffee produced in Baraona, the main producing area, has the soft taste and light aroma peculiar to the Caribbean, while the highland coffee in Siwao in the central mountain area has a strong taste-the two producing areas have their own characteristics.

There are many large estates in Siwao, and coffee trees are planted with 75% Kaddura and 25% Tibica. In terms of varieties, Baraona is an area with a high proportion of Tibika seeds.
