Qianjie-Brazilian bourbon Coffee introduction
Tin card, a variety of Arabica coffee beans, was introduced to Brazil in 1720, and by the 1850s, Brazil had become a major coffee producer in the world. In view of the limited production of iron pickup beans and declining export potential, Brazilians went to the Indian Ocean island of Reunion to collect a red bourbon (Red Bourbon) seed, which was already the main Brazilian coffee variety by the 1870s. This situation changed strangely until 1871.
A coffee tree in Botukatu, Sao Paulo, actually produces yellow berries, which the researchers believe is a natural mutation of red bourbon beans, but the yield of the yellow fruit is not high. It was not until the 1930s that the real yellow bourbon was successfully cultivated, and its mass production was much higher than that of the red bourbon species. For a while, the yellow berry attracted the attention of the Brazilian Institute of Agronomy (IAC) and officially began to study it. IAC is planting 30 pedigrees of the variety, and these new varieties have been planted all over Brazil.
Huang bourbon is characterized by a height of 2.8 meters and precocious maturity. At present, 17 of the 30 varieties have been planted commercially. Because of its sensitivity to coffee leaf rust, the cultivation of yellow bourbon needs more care than other varieties. When growing at an altitude of 1000 meters or more, if the harvest and treatment process is better, the yellow bourbon usually shows very good quality. Brazil only grows yellow bourbon, not pink bourbon.
The sensory characteristics of yellow bourbon are very obvious in the cup, mainly because of its outstanding sweetness, significant aroma and very obvious citric acid, ripe fruit and raisins are the main flavors of yellow bourbon.
In 2017, Brazil's Huang Bourbon scored 92.33 points in the honey group competition in the "Excellence Cup" and sold at auction for a staggering $131 per pound, 100 times the price of commercial coffee beans at the time.
Although coffee is diverse, Brazilian coffee is suitable for the taste of the public. For example, coffee produced in the northern coastal areas has a typical iodine taste, reminiscent of the sea after drinking. This coffee is exported to North America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
Flavor: there are many kinds and flavors, but most of them are low acidity coffee with smooth taste.
