Front Street-introduction to Duncan Manor in Panama

The three major estates in Panama are Elida (Alida Manor), La Esmeralda (Emerald Manor) and Kotowa Duncan (Duncan Manor).

Today, Panama has become one of the popular producing areas of boutique coffee. However, many years ago, Panamanian coffee production was far lower than it is now, and it has been struggling to survive in the international coffee market. For Panamanian coffee, the real change came from a massive fungal infection of coffee trees in 1960, which seemed unfortunate, forcing farmers to cut down most of the infected coffee trees. The whole coffee community just wants to find a solution as soon as possible to prevent more losses.

Today, Rose Summer has become synonymous with Panamanian high-quality coffee.

Kotowa comes from the native Indian language "Gaoshan", which is located in the highlands next to the Baru volcano. Among them, Kotowa Duncan Manor is located on the east side of the Boquete Valley, with lush green vegetation, unique micro-climate and rich volcanic soil, sunrise early, water vapor from the Atlantic Ocean condenses to form rain at an altitude of up to 2500 meters, and Rain Water is abundant.

In 1913, Alexander Duncan, the founder of the farm, traveled from Canada to Panama. He was attracted by the magical local flavor and fragrant coffee, and he fell in love with the land. Four generations of the Alexander family have grown and processed coffee here one after another.

The farm is now managed by Ricardo Koyer, Alexander's grandson. As Ricardo attaches great importance to the mode of production of organic coffee and believes that the environmental state of the plantation will affect the quality and flavor of coffee, it is forbidden to use any herbicides, pesticides and chemical pesticides in the plantation.

At the same time, in order to improve the quality of life for farmers on the farm and their families, relevant living facilities have been established to provide them with good medical security, daily necessities, and after-school counseling. Since 2002, it has been certified by the United Nations Children's Fund (Corporate Social responsibility) every year.

It is worth mentioning that the rose summer of Kotowa Las Brujas Manor uses a special treatment to bring it the sweetness of ripe fruit, and even taste the mellow flavor of red wine, so it is named "red wine treatment"-that is, the coffee fruit which is fully ripe and purple in skin is selected and placed in the cellar for low-temperature fermentation to increase its sugar content and sweetness, and then solarization treatment.
