According to the standards of the Jamaica Coffee Industry Council (CIB), the legal producing areas of Blue Mountain Coffee are limited to St. Andrew, St. Thomas and Portland.

CIB also has strict standards for the elevation of Blue Mountain Coffee:

Coffee grown at an altitude of 900m-1700 m is called Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee.

The altitude coffee planted at 460m-900m is called Jamaican Alpine Coffee Jamaica High Mountain Coffee.

Blue Mountain 1 is the highest grade of coffee produced in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica. Real Blue Mountain coffee can only be confirmed by cup testing by full-time cup testers of the Jamaican government and can only be exported in special oak barrels.
