Introduction to Asian Coffee producing countries-Coffee Story of Papua New Guinea Coffee History of British and German colonization
Qianjie-A brief introduction to the history of coffee in Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea, once colonized by the Germans and the British, grew and produced coffee in and around Port Morales in the 19th century, when most of its exports went to the Australian coffee market. Therefore, the owners of coffee estates are mostly private estates, and the indigenous residents only work as a labor force.
To this day, the country still grows coffee and exports, but the output is very small, the quality is still quite good. In Papua New Guinea, there are not many coffee estates and plantations, mainly small farmers, and a small amount of land is allocated for coffee cultivation, which can be used for sale and export. Due to the large forest area of the country, accounting for more than 63% of the land area, there is not much land available for planting, and less than 3% can be used for production.
There are hundreds of languages in Papua New Guinea, and the cultural differences are so great that it is very difficult to purchase coffee in the country. At present, there are many tribes in the country, with differences in customs and languages, backward communication conditions, and obstacles to the cultivation and production of coffee.
In the 1920s, Papua New Guinea introduced a variety of iron pickup, the Blue Mountain Coffee, from Jamaica. The introduction has effectively increased coffee production, mainly in the Pacific islands, where there are most coffee-growing areas.
As a former colony, Papua New Guinea does not have a long history of coffee cultivation, although the output is not large, but the good news is that the quality of coffee has always been the leader in boutique coffee.
It's all about dissemination and sharing.
