In recent years, coffee with Chinese characteristics has developed rapidly. Under the guidance of the main mentors in Yunnan and other international CQI Q mentors, China has begun to implement the Q Plan.

CQI partnered with Yunnan Coffee Exchange and other domestic partners as well as government projects in 2015 to help improve the quality of coffee and the lives of coffee producers. CQI and YCE have a wide range of programs that include all aspects of professional coffee. This includes the preparation of a new manual on the production and processing of coffee with Yunnan characteristics and cooperation with many major partners. In addition, CQI partnered with the World Coffee Research Center (WCR) to introduce new genetic materials and began several variety trials. YCE has built an impressive training facility, as well as a SCA campus and an auction center to replicate the success of the Yunnan Flower Exchange, one of the largest flower exchanges in the world.

2017 is an important year for China's coffee production and consumption country. China continues to work hard on farms and factories to improve the quality of its raw materials. Dr. Osgood, a volunteer from the coffee team, introduced leaf tissue analysis to Yunnan farmers as a tool to guide fertilization and save fertilizer. With his e-fforts and perseverance, leaf analysis may become a routine test / service for farmers in Yunnan in the near future. In 2017, we began to draft a production and processing manual specifically for Yunnan. The purpose of this manual is to provide coffee growers in Yunnan with a simple and practical tool to produce specialty coffee. Coffee producers in Yunnan now have access to this resource.

With the strong support of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has also launched a new agricultural demonstration project with the Yunnan Coffee International Exchange Center (YCE). Based on several factors, Dr. Osgood and Louis Delgado, as well as Ted Ringer and YCE consultants, selected 10 model farms from Pu'er, Baoshan and Lingang. After a series of training and promotion, these farms will eventually become a model for Yunnan farms.

China is the world's ninth largest producer of Arabica coffee, producing 2 million bags (60 kilograms) of coffee a year, according to a report released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in December 2018.
