Introduction to the Manor of Branco Manor in Monda, Colombia

Finca Monteblanco Monda Branco Manor is located on a winding mountain road (Verada La Toroca) in the town of San Adolfo, south of Cymbidium, Colombia. It is located on a mountain surrounded by clouds for years, covering an area of about 18 hectares. The top of the hill is a dry and wet treatment plant, and coffee trees are planted along the hillside.

The farm is managed by the Rodrigo S á nchez Valencia family, while the owner Rodrigo S á nchez, his wife Claudia Samboni and daughter Natlia also manage the Finca El Progreso estate. In the 1980s, Rodrigo S á nchez's grandfather had already planted a rare pink bourbon variety. In 2002, Rodrigo S á nchez took part in a local program and began to study the coffee cup test to evaluate the best batch of a local farm. At that time, he discovered a unique new variety of coffee cultivated by his grandfather: "La Caturra Purpura" or "Purple Caturra". The coffee tree grows unique copper / purple leaves when it grows new. The ripe cherries are also dark purple, and only 26 of the more than 20000 coffee trees in the manor have this unique mutation.

Purple Kaddura is a common red Kaddura mutant in Colombia. at present, this special purple Kaddura has been widely cultivated and planted in Finca Monteblanco Manor.

Bailey sugar content (Brix degree) is an important basis for measuring the maturity of harvest fruit in Brancome Manor, which constantly improves the harvest standard and post-harvest treatment technology. It is mainly because pink bourbon and Zikadura are not (dark) red when they mature, so Rodrigo S á nchez will find out the most suitable time for fruit harvest according to the sugar content of Bailey.

Introduction of Zikadura varieties

Purple Kaddura (Purple Caturra) was first discovered in 2009 on the Rodrigo S á nchez farm in Colombia. Its variety is derived from the natural gene variety of red Kaddura (the probability of variation is extremely low, about 0.08%). Purple Kaddura plants produce purple young leaves at the top, unlike ordinary coffee trees are green, surprisingly, the fruit is also dark purple.

Of course, its coffee flavor spectrum is different from that of Kaddura, which is so unique that the landowner has even developed a unique exclusive treatment for new varieties to give coffee the best flavor! And try to plant more of this mutant on his experimental farm, Finca El Progreso (Progressive Farm). At that time, there were only 26 purple Kaddura of 20000 coffee trees on the farm, accounting for only 0.13% of the total number of coffee trees on the farm. Because it is rare and rare, this variety needs to rely on Brix degree to determine the color range it can harvest.

Fortunately, the purple Kaddura variety survived the rust leaf disease that ravaged Colombia in 2012, greatly encouraging landowners to make more efforts to continue the breeding of this new coffee tree species.
