Even in Brazil, which has a long coffee tradition, the history of Fazenda da Lagoa is outstanding. The origin of Fazenda da Lagoa can be traced back to the second half of the 18th century, when Portuguese settlers built a chapel along the Amparo River and built a fence around the present-day farm.
There is Manouel Ferreira Carneiro among the settlers. As a simple man, he built his first house on the farm and quickly grew into one of the largest coffee houses in the area. Knowledge of how to produce one of Brazil's most outstanding coffees has been passed down from generation to generation. Today, Joaquin Paiva, a direct descendant of Carneiro, is one of the two managing directors of the farm.
Fazenda da Lagoa is 1100 meters above sea level and is located near the town of San Antonio Amparo, 170km southeast of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gilles. Its 2850 hectares of land includes nature reserves, woodlands, pastures and 1500 hectares of coffee. Streams from 40 natural springs provide water for the land and gradually merge into two small rivers that mark the boundaries of the rivers.
This beautiful place is a paradise for all kinds of plants and animals. In order to protect this natural environment and preserve its ecological balance for future generations, all activities on the farm are strictly monitored. The principle of sustainability guides all planting and processing practices on the farm. By protecting healthy soils and rivers and producing sustainable coffee, Fazenda da Lagoa aims to be an inspiring partner for neighboring rural communities.
At Fazenda da Lagoa, coffee growing is more than just a business-it's a way of life. Generations have devoted themselves to creating quality coffee and bringing joy to people all over the world. According to strict sustainability principles, only Arabica varieties, such as Catua í, Mundo Novo, Acay á and Catuca í, are selected and planted in plantations.
Fazenda da Lagoa adheres to its 200-year-old coffee tradition and is also known for its innovative farming methods, including modern agricultural techniques based on scientific research on farms.
