Oahu, Hawaii, Maui, Kauai and Mauroka are the five main Hawaiian coffee growing islands, and the coffee produced on different islands also has its own characteristics. Hawaii has an island climate, where temperatures vary little throughout the year, but there is a large temperature difference between day and night, and there is enough cloud to block the sun. Although the average elevation of coffee producing areas is not very high, the quality of coffee produced here is not low due to Hawaii's special island climate and fertile volcanic soil.

Kauai coffee is soft and smooth, Mauroka coffee is high in alcohol and low in acidity, Maui coffee is medium in acidity but the strongest in flavor. Hawaiians are proud of their 100% indigenous Arabica coffee beans. Hawaiian coffee is now grown mostly on the Big Island and Maui.

Hawaiian Coffee Bean Grade

According to the Hawaii Department of Agriculture's evaluation standards, coffee beans are divided into four grades: Extra Fancy, Fancy, Prime and Gr.No.1,(100% KONA). Type1 is the standard coffee bean, containing the largest size Kona Extra Fancy, followed by the following grades: Kona Fancy;Kona Select and Kona Prime.

Type2 is a special round bean, which consists of two grades of round beans, Kona Number 1 Peaberry and smaller Kona Peaberry Prime.

It is worth noting, however, that Kona coffee prices are catching up with Jamaica Blue Mountain on the market as demand for specialty coffee increases, and good Kona beans are becoming increasingly difficult to buy.

Front Street Coffee has a Kona coffee from Queen Manor that is medium dark roasted and has a balanced brown sugar flavor with a slight floral aroma.
