And this Ceylon refers to Ceylon black tea, which comes from a tropical island country in the Indian Ocean. It is Sri Lanka.

The word "Ceylon" comes from the name Ceylon of the old country of Sri Lanka.

James Taylor, a Scot, was only 16 when he came to Ceylon. He successfully planted tea trees in Assam on the land of Ceylon in 1869. Ceylon black tea was born and has a history of more than 150 years.

Ceylon black tea spread to London, England in 1872 and received good comments. James Taylor officially developed a tea garden in Ceylon to cultivate it.

When it comes to Ceylon black tea, what we are most familiar with is that highland tea, middle tea and lowland tea are divided according to the altitude of planting. The high, middle and low elevations of Sri Lanka are divided into first levels for every 600 meters.

The western and eastern sides of the mountains in southern Sri Lanka are covered with tea gardens. The difference in altitude in the hills brings the monsoon effects of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean, giving the tea a very distinctive aroma.

Sri Lanka can be said to be one of the famous black tea producing countries in the world. Even if it has never drunk Ceylon black tea, it has more or less heard the term Ceylon black tea.

The main tea-producing areas in Sri Lanka are Nuvala Elia, Uwo, Timpra, Kandi and Luhana, and two more have been added in recent years: Udapu Shharava and Saberg Mouwa.

[Novala Elia]

Nuvala Elia is a town built by the Scots when they opened up the tea garden. The infrastructure here is British-style, so it is known as "Little England".

Nuvalaelia day and night temperature of about 5 degrees Celsius to 14 degrees Celsius, daytime temperature of 18 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius, the climate is cool and comfortable. Black tea is characterized by 2mm to 3mm BOP type, low degree of oxidation fermentation, with a little grass flavor, and has a fresh and crisp aroma, smooth and slightly irritating astringent taste.

The monsoon from January to February from the Bay of Bengal gives the tea there a strong aroma. The fragrance has the sweetness of mint and green apple, the tea is dark orange in color, astringent and sharp. Therefore, the tea season in Nuvala Elia.

[Udapu Sharava]

The producing area is a new producing area of Ceylon black tea, which is between 1600 and 1700 meters above sea level. There are not many tea gardens here, but there is a tea season twice a year under the influence of the northeast monsoon from January to February and the southwest monsoon from July to August.

The black tea in this producing area is dominated by BOP, but it is op type during the tea season. The taste has a refreshing and crisp astringency. The aroma is made of sweet berries and refreshing citrus. The tea is orange-red in color.

[Uwo]

The producing area is located in southeastern Sri Lanka and is between 1400 and 1700 meters above sea level. The black tea produced by Lipton's DAMBATENNE Tea Garden won the highest rating in the history of the London Review Conference in 1891, and the producing area became famous.

The Indian Ocean monsoon from July to August makes the tea in this producing area from the hearty aroma of peppermint to the right stimulation of astringency.

Out of the tea season, Wuwo black tea also has a rose-like flower fragrance, a strong taste with round astringency, and a deep red color.

[Dinpra]

Dingpra is a small town belonging to the Central Province, with an altitude of between 800m and 1300 m above sea level.

Classified from the altitude, the tea in this area belongs to lowland tea, but because of the difference in altitude, the tea in some tea gardens belongs to highland tea.

Tea gardens at high elevations are affected by the southwest monsoon, and the tea season is from January to February.

The black tea in this area has a mild astringent taste full of black tea characteristics throughout the year, as well as a sweet aroma similar to rose or green apple, with a deep red color.

The red brown color of this producing area is complete with fragrance and fragrance, and is highly appraised. When tasting, it is round, full and full of layers. It is called Full Body.

[Kandi]

Located in the ancient capital of inland Sri Lanka, the tea garden is mainly located in the central hilly area, where James Taylor developed Ceylon black tea.

Almost all of the producing areas are lowlands ranging from 500 meters to 800 meters, but there are still a few tea gardens located more than 800 meters, so they are classified as tea in the middle.

Lowland tea has low catechin content, soft astringent taste, less climate change throughout the year, and stable quality and yield.

[Luhanna]

Ceylon was divided into three kingdoms in ancient times, one of which was the kingdom of Luhanna. Luhanna black tea comes from the name of the former kingdom.

The black tea in this area is different from others in that it has a sweet aroma of caramel and is sometimes similar to vanilla or honey. The astringent taste is round and soft.

[Zabeleg Movo]

The area is cultivated in inland lowlands, mainly in Keegler in the northeast and Ratnappler in the southeast.

The tea characteristics of this producing area are similar to those of Luhanna, and it is only in recent years that it is regarded as an independent producing area. There are few and large-scale tea gardens here, almost all of them are small-scale tea farmers.
