Coffee grounds contain a lot of healthy antioxidants
The world consumes billions of cups of coffee every day, resulting in nearly 20 million tons of coffee grounds, a small part of which is used for commercial development and production of chemical fertilizer, but a large part of it is thrown away as garbage. We know that coffee itself is rich in healthy antioxidants, so are these discarded coffee grounds more useful? This is the subject of Maria-Paz de Pe ñ an and his colleagues.
The study found that different coffee utensils contain different antioxidants in the coffee grounds left after making coffee. The coffee grounds of drip filter, French pressure pot and Espresso coffee machine contain more antioxidants than the coffee grounds of mocha pot. After these antioxidants are extracted, coffee grounds can still be used to produce chemical fertilizer.
The results are braided in ACS's Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (ACS' Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry).
