Gone glory.

New Caledonia, a former French colony, has only 10 per cent of its land available for cultivation and coffee and maize are its main crops.

Missionaries imported coffee from La Réunion in 1860, but by 1987 only 40 tons were produced annually, of which 37 tons were exported, mostly to France. The beans are unusual Robett coffee, excellent in quality and rich in taste, yet tender and lightly roasted.

New Caledonia is mentioned only as a fond memory of its past glory and it is hoped that future coffee drinkers will have the opportunity to taste this traditional flavor.
