When will the association be established?

The Hong Kong Professional Coffee Association (HKPCA) was established in May 2009. HKPCA inauguration ceremony is honored at HOFEX 09 in Conven-tional and Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong, the largest exhibition venue in Hong Kong. Mr. Billy Lee founded HKPCA, an experienced entrepreneur and general manager of coffee is Sun Tiansheng Coffee Co., Ltd., a famous local coffee brand. As early as the 1990s, Hong Kong people did not care much about boutique coffee and accepted Hong Kong-style coffee. Billy is inspired by the coffee culture in Europe. The goal he pursues is a complete coffee production line, from planting to the final step of coffee. However, in Hong Kong, there is a lack of a platform for knowledge about coffee. This prompted him to visit many famous cafes in Europe and coffee farms around the world.

What is the goal of the Hong Kong Professional Coffee Association?

The newly established Hong Kong Professional Coffee Association is a registered non-profit organization. Its mission is to provide a platform for coffee industry and coffee lovers in all sectors to share their coffee knowledge and jointly promote coffee culture. What is the success of HKPCA in Hong Kong coffee culture? It is obvious that Hong Kong people have fallen in love with coffee in recent years. Despite its popularity, Hong Kong lacks a platform for coffee lovers and professionals to exchange their expertise compared with other countries and big cities in mainland China. Through comprehensive activities of the Hong Kong Professional Coffee Association, the ultimate goal is to establish a recognition of Hong Kong coffee in the global coffee society Hong Kong coffee culture.

What is the biggest challenge for the boutique coffee industry in Hong Kong?

One of the biggest challenges facing boutique coffee in Hong Kong is that traditional Hong Kong-style coffee is a popular daily life for many Hong Kong people. Fine coffee is different from the general concept of coffee. Hong Kong-style coffee dates back to the colonial era in the 19th century, when coffee or tea was part of an afternoon meal. One-year-old breakfast, lunch and dinner are still so popular with a cup of Hong Kong-style coffee. However, we expect that many coffee lovers are not satisfied with mature Hong Kong-style coffee and are looking for better coffee.

How does the association work to solve this problem?

To solve this problem, the Hong Kong Professional Coffee Association focuses on promoting coffee culture by regulating all educational and appreciative activities of aJ, including coffee cup testing, barista training, and internationally recognized baristas competitions. More down-to-earth activities such as coffee exhibitions and media interviews will arouse public interest in coffee knowledge. We also promote coffee culture and enhance the experience of members to understand and master global coffee knowledge by providing regular visits to overseas coffee farms, cafes, and baristas competitions.
