According to foreign food websites, a recent study published by Harvard University researchers in the Journal of Nutrition shows that drinking coffee not only benefits metabolism and liver health, but also reduces the risk of diabetes.

The study, led by Nicole Wedick of the Harvard School of Public Health, involved 45 obese, coffee-drinking 40-year-olds who were then divided into three groups, one drinking caffeinated coffee, the other decaffeinated coffee, and the remaining group drinking water only, drinking five drinks a day for eight weeks.

The caffeine group had a 60 percent reduction in blood levels of interleukin-6, a substance that promotes inflammation, compared with the water group. The caffeine group also had lower levels of adiponectin released by fat cells, which was not seen in the decaffeinated group.

However, the researchers also said that drinking coffee for eight weeks did not cause changes in blood sugar or insulin levels.
