The Constitution of the United Republic was enacted in April 1977 and has since been amended 14 times. The United Republic has a coalition government and a local government in Zanzibar. The current constitution of Zanzibar was formulated in 1979 and has since been amended. The presidential election of the United Republic is held at the same time as the presidential election of the United Republic. The presidential candidates are nominated by all mulberry political parties and directly elected by all the voters of the country.
