It's not just coffee! Starbucks will serve alcohol and pizza in the United States
On Dec. 4, Starbucks, a famous coffee chain, unveiled a five-year plan that includes the launch of a "mobile ordering system" and the provision of wine, beer and night food in 3000 stores in the United States.
Forbes reported that Starbucks aims to double its revenue in the United States over the next five years by changing its position to become a provider of night food and alcohol, selling a wider variety of foods, rather than just a "coffee chain." Three years ago, Starbucks removed the word "coffee" from its logo to serve richer foods, not just the breakfast baked snacks of the past.
"We know better than ever how to develop a bigger restaurant industry during breakfast and lunch," Troy Alstead, chief operating officer of Starbucks, told the Wall Street Journal.
Some Starbucks stores in Chicago, Seattle, Portland and Los Angeles have started serving small portions of cheese, vegetables and pizza, along with wine and beer, from 4 p.m., according to the Wall Street Journal. "this opportunity is better than we thought," Alstead said.
Starbucks plans to expand its "nightly food and alcohol program" in 32 stores to nearly 3000 of its 11900 stores in the United States, Forbes reported.
Starbucks' new "mobile ordering and payment system" will make it easier to buy coffee, which Forbes said will support Starbucks'"distribution plan" in selected markets in the United States next year.
Currently, Starbucks has 21000 stores around the world, providing food to 70 million customers every week.
