Last Updated: 2024/11/17, Coffee mixed with alcohol can lead to a sharp rise in blood pressure and even fatal, a new study has found. The latest study through integrated analysis found that in patients with high blood pressure, every 1.52 cups of caffeine in coffee can lead to a sharp rise in high blood pressure, and it is difficult to decrease for at least three hours. Coffee mixed with alcohol can lead to a sharp rise in blood pressure and even fatal, a new study has found.

The latest study through integrated analysis found that in patients with high blood pressure, caffeine in every 1.5 cups of coffee will lead to a sharp rise in high blood pressure, and it will be difficult to decrease for at least 3 hours. However, there is no evidence of an association between long-term coffee consumption and the risk of cardiovascular disease in patients with high blood pressure or hypertension.

In five trials, intake of 200 Mel 300 mg caffeine (1.5 Mel 2 cups of filtered coffee) increased systolic and diastolic blood pressure by 8.2 mm Hg and 5.6 mm Hg, respectively. The increase in blood pressure occurs one hour after caffeine intake, and high blood pressure lasts for at least 3 hours.

In six long-term (one-week) caffeine trials, scientists did not find that long-term coffee consumption increased blood pressure after comparing caffeine and placebo, coffee and non-caffeinated diets, and coffee and decaffeinated coffee.

Esther Lopez-Garcia of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health of the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain, who led the new study, said the findings have clinical implications for controlling patients with high blood pressure. Because caffeine can lead to a sudden rise in blood pressure, people with high blood pressure who have uncontrollable blood pressure should avoid drinking a lot of coffee. In addition, consuming caffeinated drinks a few hours before blood pressure measurements can lead to higher blood pressure, creating the illusion that "high blood pressure is out of control."

Another study shows that drinking too much can also cause blood pressure to rise to unhealthy levels, especially in men. In men, there was a "linear dose-response relationship" between alcohol intake and hypertension. Drinking more than 30 grams a day can lead to a rise in blood pressure. The researchers say doctors should advise people with high blood pressure not to drink too much alcohol in order to control their blood pressure. Wine and coffee are more likely to increase the risk of high blood pressure.
