About the Halobaliti Cooperative

The Halobaliti Cooperative is one of the newest cooperatives under the Yega Sheffield Coffee small Farmers' Cooperative Union (Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union, referred to as YCFCU). It was originally affiliated to the Worka Cooperative, but it became an independent cooperative in 2012. Woka is located in the southernmost Godibe producing area (Gedeb) in Yegashefi. In the early years, the area used the name of Waka to export locally grown coffee beans or handed over to the Woka Cooperative for processing. But in the past two or three years, the cooperatives in the region competing for independence have been unearthed by bean hunters.

The Halobaliti Cooperative officially became independent in 2012 and won fourth place in the East African Fine Coffee Association (EAFCA) Taste of Harvest Coffee Award in 2013. Since then, it has become the target of competition among boutique bakeries all over the world every year.
