Kenya Micro batch Series Kenya Micro Lot
Kenya's boutique coffee industry is different from the general, mostly in the form of a combination of small farmers, wet treatment plants and cooperatives. Farmers will send the harvested coffee cherries to nearby processing plants or cooperatives in the shortest possible time. At the same time, cooperatives also regularly send staff to tutor local farmers to ensure that each producer has professional planting skills to maintain the quality of coffee. Shoucheng Coffee flies to Kenya every year and selects the best batches of the year from all regions of Kenya in the capital Nieli.

The Katuji processing plant, founded in 1979, is a member of the Othaya Farmers' Cooperative, located in the south of Neri District, on the eastern slope of Aberdel, about 140km north of the Kenyan capital Narobi, and about 1860 meters above sea level. The well-drained, organic-rich volcanic red soil nourishes the coffee trees here, with enough altitude and cool climate to slowly mature the coffee fruit, creating raw coffee beans with high hardness. The main growing season is from October to December, with an average of 250,300 coffee trees planted on each farm. Farmers, under the supervision of regional committees, strictly abide by the planting guidelines; at the same time, in order to promote biodiversity and maintain the good growth of crops, intercropping is also implemented-in addition to coffee, grevillea and macadamia are also planted as shade trees, as well as bananas.

The treatment plant currently has 1054 farmers, 201 acres of cultivated area, annual rainfall 1500MM, average temperature of 12-27 degrees, fertile volcanic red soil, rich mineral phosphorus and good soil drainage. The local farmers, the Kikuyu Tribe, harvest the full-ripe fruit and wash it, then slowly dry it for 2-3 weeks to 10-12% water before sending it to the nearby Sagana dry treatment plant for shelling.

The Tambaya Cooperative is located in the town of Karatina in Nieri (an autonomous city with a population of about 7000), in the southern foothills of Mount Kenya, which has a fertile soil, and part of the vast Aberdel Mountains (Aberdare Range), with an average elevation of more than 1550 meters. Karatina is also located along the Nanobi-Nieri highway in the south, and the traffic environment is still convenient. (to the east is the famous city of Kirinyaga)
The co-operative, once a member of Mukurweini, became independent as a self-owned cooperative in the 1990s (strictly speaking, Mukurweini is not far southwest of Karatina). Tambaya, which is itself a cooperative, is also a member of the Rumukia Coffee Farmers' Cooperative (Rumukia Coffee Farmer Society). Rumukia, similar to the Othaya Coffee Farmers' Cooperative (Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society), plays an important role in Kenya's boutique coffee farmers. This cooperative group is usually composed of several wet treatment plants and has independent quality control and dry treatment equipment.
Including cup control capacity and monitoring dry processing procedures, it can be said to be another management and control department at the end of raw bean processing. Well-known, such as Rumukia and Othaya, can also be regarded as one of the quality assurance indicators of coffee production.
Tambaya is one of the processing plants cooperated by Rumikia, that is, the Tambaya Cooperative itself is a wet treatment plant and has nearly 1100 independent smallholder members, each growing only about 250 coffee trees, such a micro-farm type also helps the cooperative manage each plant more effectively. Tambaya, as a co-operative between factories, is quite complete in its links with farmers and its cooperation with large cooperatives.
