In order to work more closely with coffee growers and provide better support, in 2013 we purchased our own coffee farm in Costa Rica: Alsahia Estate.

Alsahia Manor is a farm of 240 hectares located on the slopes of Poás Volcano volcano in Costa Rica's beautiful Alajuela. A portion of farm production area is devoted to commercial production.

The rest of the land is dedicated to research and development work to support a nursery for future coffee plantations, which provides free seeds and seedlings of various coffee varieties to improve disease resistance and yield of coffee trees.

Bright colors, lush vegetation. Good, happy people, smiles, laughter. The lure of seaside towns dot the Caribbean and Pacific oceans, volcanoes and sparkling rivers. Everything is in order,

It feels like walking slowly on a magnificent beach: Costa Rica is heaven on earth. A must-see nature destination in Central America, it boasts numerous national parks and wildlife reserves as well as endless tropical wilderness.

The mild climate makes it an ideal retreat and a good place to grow coffee.

Costa Rica is very important to Starbucks because of the government's firm commitment to the quality and stability of coffee. We buy coffee from multiple locations and farms at altitudes ranging from 3,900 to 5,900 feet (1,200 to 1,800 meters).

This diversity and consistent quality make Costa Rican coffee an essential ingredient in many of our blends. Stable climate and high altitude, coupled with the region's many active volcanoes, create perfect planting conditions,

Coffee has a good acidity and spice flavor, floral and nutty flavor balance.
