SBUX-US, a well-known coffee shop chain in the United States, has decided to increase the proportion of "cold extract coffee" (Cold Brew Coffee) products, announcing a partnership with Joyride Coffee, a maker of cold extract coffee, to provide Joyride-made cold coffee at Starbucks outlets in hospitals, bookstores, schools and offices in the future.

The agreement states that Joyride will use Starbucks beans for cold extraction and barrel the products to ensure the quality and freshness of the coffee, and deliver the buckets to Starbucks designated service locations. The two sides did not disclose the detailed amount of the deal.

David Belanich, chief executive of Joyride, told CNBC: "Cold coffee is not a fashion, but Starbucks is very promising, sees its potential, and plans to promote it greatly without undermining quality and standards."

Starbucks said at its fourth quarter earnings meeting that cold coffee is one of the fastest-growing items on the company's menu. The price of high-end cold coffee is about 20% higher than that of ordinary iced coffee, while in terms of taste, it is sweeter and smoother. The taste is full-bodied and not sour.

Starbucks sells two kinds of cold coffee, one is ordinary, and the other is nitrogen, which makes it softer. Ordinary cold coffee is available all over the country, while cold coffee with nitrogen is available in only about 1500 stores.

Cold coffee with nitrogen is very popular, and when Starbucks first sold the product in 2015, its sales soared by 25%, which is why Starbucks believes it is an important plan to continue to expand cold coffee to different locations, according to Forbes.

Starbucks said late last year that it expects cold coffee drinks to grow to nearly half of its overall beverage revenue over the next five years, while the company predicts that by 2021, about 50% of its beverage mix will be cold drinks, up from 35% in 2013.
