Kaiyong Mountain single Farm was founded by Ato Esmael and his family in 2012.

The whole farm covers an area of about 300 hectares

Of these, more than 200 hectares are still primitive reserved forests.

The selected seat on Kaiyong Mountain Farm is located in the elite Shakiso producing area of Guji (Shakisso/Shakiso).

It is more than 500 kilometers away from the capital, Athos, Addis Ababa.

The seat in the Guji producing area is actually on the east side of Yega Snow.

But the part next to Yega Snow is the Hambela producing area.

If you want to go to Shaquiso, you don't usually go through Yega Snow.

It takes about six hours to travel south from the capital to the town of Yirga Aleam.

Abandon the road on the right to the Yega Snow Coffe producing area

Turn onto Highway 82 on the left, all the way southeast.

We can finally get to Shaquiso in about four hours.

(n 5 °46 & # 39 / 21 "E38 °54 & # 39 / 9", about 1730m above sea level).

The most famous economic activity in Guji producing area in history is gold mine!

And Kibre Mengist, the main gold mining area, is near the northeast of Shaquiso town.

Go up and down the mountains looking for beans nearby.

There is no shortage of opportunities to pass through the mining area, or the remains of panning for gold through streams.

The gold mining industry of real gold and silver is interesting compared with coffee black gold in the past and present.

Like the two key trends that we have been observing and pursuing in the past few years

One is the rise of Guji producing areas.

The other is the development of single farm system.

This year seems to be a year when these two trends blossom and bear fruit.

In the development trend of several Ethiopian boutique coffee

We discussed with you at the cup meeting the year before last.

An important trend and forecast is the rise of the single farm system.

If you remember, according to Ethiopia's decree, there are three coffee export systems.

(1) the largest private processing plant system that has been exported through ECX bidding.

(2) Cooperative system; (3) single farm system. Of these three systems,

Cooperatives and single manors can be exported directly without competitive bidding through ECX

It can be said that it has completely reliable traceability / product resume (traceability).

However, if we get to the bottom of the matter, after all, cooperatives also deal with cherries harvested by small farmers.

Not 100% traceable.

After all, a single farm is the only possibility of moving forward to the next generation.

The single farm system has always existed in Ethiopia.

However, the proportion has not been high, and traditionally it belongs to a large number of commercial batches that do not attach importance to quality.

With Ethiopia's emergence in the third wave of boutique coffee in the past two or three decades

Except for the traditional coffee industry.

Ethiopia is also gradually under the influence of Western culture.

The newcomers who hope to bring change to the industry, in addition to traditional exporters, have invested in the production area.

What's more, it attracts an upsurge of returning from Europe and the United States to their hometown.

And the single farm system

(let's temporarily call it Single Farm Project, or SFP for short) how important is it?

We all know that Ethiopia is dominated by a smallholder system.

However, it is impossible for the smallholder system to achieve full traceability,

Single variety batches, special treatment batches,

Customized batches and other very important implementation concepts for the development of boutique coffee

A single farm is the only answer to all these questions.

There are also many differences between the Guji producing area and the Yega snow coffee producing area, which is generally pursued by everyone.

There are great differences in location, local conditions, nationality, language and so on.

Coffee flavor is on the premise of showing the typical wonderful flavor of Ethiopia.

There are also some slight differences. Guji belongs to the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia, the Oromo.

Use Oromo (Oromifa)

Yejasuffe is the traditional living area of the Gedio people.

On the whole, the Yega snow coffee producing area became famous and developed early.

On the other hand, Guji is a rising star, on the one hand, Guji has a larger area.

It is not difficult to find fertile virgin land at high altitude and protected by virgin forests.

In addition, Yega Xuefen has long been a battleground for military personnel because of its fame.

Most of the newly built treatment plants or farms are in Guji producing areas.

It is not difficult to imagine that Gucci will be an important engine of Ethiopian boutique coffee innovation in the next few years.
