La Berlina Manor Coffee Farm was founded by Diaz, a soldier from Colombia who was sent to Panama in the early 20th century to suppress the rise of separatism, and when Panama gained independence, these soldiers, like Diaz, had two choices: to return to Colombia or to stay in Panama. In the mountains outside Boquete, the Diaz family found many wild Tibica coffee trees, Arabica "purebred" coffee, and built an 80-acre farm here.
