A cafe for the disabled opens in Japan! Chinese baristas are losing their jobs!
Tokyo's robotics development company ORY Research Institute, Nippon Foundation and ANA Holdings opened a special cafe Tuesday to receive guests at home by remote-controlled "doppelganger robots," Kyodo News reported.
This is a demonstration test to be carried out on December 7 at the Nippon Foundation Building in the port area of Tokyo, and it is intended to open a permanent store in 2020.
Ten people with severe disabilities such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and spinal injuries input information into a computer by turning their eyeballs and other parts of their bodies at home to operate the 120-cm-tall clone robot "OriHime-D" developed by ORY Research Institute. In this way orders are accepted and food and beverages are served. The staff are on a shift basis and earn 1000 yen (about 3000 tenge) per hour.
"It makes physical labor possible (by remotely controlling robots) so that you can participate in society," Kenta Yoshito, a representative of ORY Research Institute, said at a press conference. "
In addition, the three companies have reached a cooperation on supporting the employment of disabled people through remote control robots. ANA Holdings Chairman Shinichiro Ito said,"(Remote control robot) as a new mobile tool and communication tool also has the possibility. "
