Why Brazilian coffee beans are less washed?

Brazilian coffee beans are grown in large gardens in the 850m--1200m flatlands above sea level to small plantations harvested artificially in the mountains. According to the climate and humidity conditions, the farm chooses sun, half-sun or water washing treatment to show the best regional flavor.

Although water washing is also used by some coffee growers, it is not chosen as the mainstream treatment method; this is due to the large production in Brazil, water washing treatment requires a lot of water resources and wastewater treatment. Therefore, the later development for washing treatment is more used for a very small number of farms to do small batch customization.

Also because, although Brazil is one of the countries with the most abundant freshwater resources in the world, the distribution of water resources is uneven, and many regions have to rely on natural draught. Especially in the east where coffee cultivation is concentrated, severe droughts often occur, and the scarcity of water resources limits the choice of coffee treatment.

Brazil has 27 states, 17 of which produce coffee, but four of them produce the largest, accounting for 98 per cent of Brazil's total output: Parana, SaoPaulo, MinasGerais and EspiritoSanto, with the southern state producing the most, accounting for 50 per cent of total production.
