Yemen is located in West Asia, only one step away from the African continent. Without the promotion of Islamic priests in the Arabian Peninsula, coffee might still be a wild plant in Ethiopia. Legend has it that coffee was introduced when it was ruled by Ethiopia in the sixth century and was named Qahwa, which means red wine in Arabic. The post-Ottoman Empire invaded in 1536 and controlled the coffee trade. In order to protect export earnings, the authorities strictly prohibit the export of raw beans, and the seeds must be boiled in boiling water before leaving the country.

The history of Yemeni coffee

Since the 16th century, for 150 years, Yemen has been the exclusive global supplier of coffee, all of which is exported from the port of Mocha in the Red Sea.

Under the unique microclimate and high altitude environment of Yemen, the coffee produced is rich in sweetness and chocolate flavor. in order to imitate the taste of Yemeni coffee, many coffee shops add chocolate syrup to the coffee cooked from beans from different producing areas, also known as mocha coffee.

In the middle of the 1600 century, an Indian smuggled seven coffee beans from Yemen. Since then, coffee beans have spread all over the world, and 90% of the world's coffee beans can be traced back to Yemen.

Yemen is currently facing a serious "humanitarian crisis". The founder of the port of Mocha-hopes to use the process of bidding beans to help farmers, because as a result of the war, 46% of the Yemeni population are children under the age of 15. The Yemeni port of Mocha will donate 15% of the proceeds of the bid to the children's schools that grow these exclusive Yemeni coffee.
