Bourbon is not only the name of American bourbon, but also a variety of coffee (the Chinese name is bourbon). Bourbon coffee belongs to the Arabica breed, named after an island of the same name (now renamed R é union) in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar, where the bourbon tree was originally found. Coffee historians believe that bourbon is an Arabica breed that originated in Ethiopia and Yemen and was brought to the island of Bourbon by the French. By the late 19th century, bourbon had spread to Brazil in South America, Rwanda and Burundi in East Africa (Burundi).
Bourbon can be said to be the older coffee variety, because experts believe that many of the existing coffee varieties in circulation are a mixture of bourbon and another Arabica variety, Typica. The yield of bourbon is low, but the planting breadth is still high, second only to Typica. Its variety coffee fruit is small in size and more concentrated in fruit flavor. The bourbon tree needs a large planting space, but the fruit takes time, but it ripens quickly and the growth cycle is short. Farmers should be careful to avoid damage to the fruit by strong winds or torrential rain. Similar to grapes, excellent fruit varieties work better in the highlands. Bourbon coffee trees are best planted between 1067 meters and 1980 meters, with the best maturity. Bourbon is divided into three color types: red, yellow and orange, each with different flavors, but the biggest characteristic of the whole is that it can rush out the fragrant coffee with moderate acidity, complexity and well-balanced balance, with bright and clear fruit flavor and sweet finish with caramel.
A brief description of the origin of bourbon species was first found in Island of Bourbon Island, which is now 'Reunion Island' east of Madagascar on the east coast of East Africa, so it is named after Bourbon Island. Bourbon species will yield less than other Arabian species, belong to low-and medium-yield tree species, and have poor wind and rain resistance than some emerging hybrids, but bourbon species can have a fuller and upward flavor when planted at high altitude. therefore, in recent years, some boutique estates in Central and South American countries have enthusiastically promoted this low-yield but high-quality variety, such as El Salvador, Brazil and Rwanda in East Africa.
After the red bourbon general coffee tree blossoms and bears fruit, the color change of the coffee fruit is: green > turn yellowish > turn slightly orange > turn mature red > turn more ripe dark red, so some people also call it [red bourbon], in fact, red bourbon, that is, what we call bourbon species. Bourbon planted at high altitude usually has a better aroma, while the acid is brighter and even tastes like red wine.
The color change of the yellow bourbon species is the same as that mentioned above, but eventually changes to a bright yellow, so the yellow bourbon species is distinguished from the bourbon species.
Bourboncito: short bourbon whisky widely grown in Guatemala and other Central American countries.
