An introduction to the producing area of Clifton Mountain Coffee and the description of the Flavor characteristics of Blue Mountain Coffee
Clifton Hill is the oldest coffee growing area still in operation in Jamaica and is recognized as the world's best known Blue Mountain coffee growing area. Its elegant Big House Farm is located on the island in the Newcastle region, perched on the eastern slope of Catherine Peak at an altitude of 4300 feet. Clifton Hill Village, photographed by Marianne in 1872 As early as the mid-18th century (circa 1750), Clifton Farm began growing and producing coffee. According to the Jamaica Institute in 1810, Robert Hamilton was the owner of the farm at the time. This map shows Clifton Hill divided into two parts, 80 acres of coffee and 427 acres of pasture at the top, and 111 acres of coffee and 264 acres of pasture at the foot. In 1872, the famous British painter and writer Marian Rose visited Jamaica and stayed on Clifton Hill for five months. In her autobiography, Memories of a Happy Life, she mentions Clifton Hotel, where she stayed: "Clifton Hotel belonged to a local gentleman who had lost his wife. Instead of staying in hotels, he rents them out to different people each week, so that more people can experience the cold air at 5000 feet above sea level and have the opportunity to wander among the best and oldest coffee plantations in Jamaica."
Clifton Hills
The coffee growing and processing area is located at an average of 4300 feet (1310.64 meters), with sufficient altitude, mild afternoon cloud shade, sufficient sunlight and mineral-rich planting soil to provide good growth conditions for coffee trees and prolong the ripening of coffee cherries.
In 1953, the Government of Jamaica established the Jamaica Coffee Industry (CIB) to regulate and safeguard the quality of Jamaica coffee. Jamaica was the first country in the world to assign a specific geographical location to a specific coffee brand, similar to the French wine industry's creation of AOC.
All coffee exported from Jamaica is shipped by CIB. And rigorous testing by trained quality control experts ensures that all exported coffee is 100% authentic Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee.
The Sharp family, Jason, Lawrence (father), and Richard
Clifton Farm began growing and producing coffee as early as the mid-18th century (circa 1750). According to a survey by the Jamaica Institute in 1810, Robert Hamilton was the owner of the farm at the time, and the Sharps now run the estate.
Sharpe is now examining Clifton's high altitude and long history, and is also unique in its treatment method. This wonderful and unique treatment method gives Clifton a rich taste such as slight flowers in addition to the round and soft taste characteristic of Blue Mountain One.
So that's why Clifton is loved and sold at a high price...... by the standard of over ten thousand barrels.
