The birthplace of coffee, even with all the talents and achievements of human beings, our best work is still close to the primitive beauty of nature.

Ethiopia, known as the birthplace of coffee, does have an unfair advantage over other countries. It's as if the environmental conditions of this place are created for the cultivation of extraordinary coffee. Actually, they are! Of all the places on earth, it is no accident that coffee decided to appear in the forests of southwestern Ethiopia.

The coffee here is better than that of many other countries. However, because of this, people's expectations are also higher. In order to meet our higher expectations, coffee must be spectacular, expressive, profound and subtle, and the aroma gorgeous and unforgettable.

In order to meet our high standards for Ethiopian coffee, we chose Hambella's tanning lion. The lion, the king of the forest, conquers the lion, symbolizes the strength of the Ethiopian nation, and represents all our expectations for coffee in southern Ethiopia.

METAD's history in coffee began with an extraordinary woman, Chief Muluemebet, Ethiopia's first female pilot, who was awarded farmland during World War II. Today, METAD demonstrates its roots by giving priority to hiring women to work at its treatment stations and investing in cervical cancer prevention programs.

About five years ago, METAD launched a farm project in Humbera, focusing on seedling distribution and farmer training to help and support coffee growers in the region to regain their confidence in coffee. This is a family-run project that aims to increase the income of smallholder farmers in Ethiopia.

Hundreds of individual farmers from the nearby villages of Buku and Benti Nenqa decided to work with METAD, each producing very small amounts of coffee, averaging less than 1500 pounds per season, but production has begun to increase as a result of METAD's investment in the region.

METAD has a complete treatment station, with very strict management at every step from cherry reception and separation to cleaning, fermentation and drying. METAD focuses on quality management and has inspired thousands of local growers to join them, together reshaping the future of coffee in the region. METAD's coffee is of first-class quality and returns to growers, but it creates far more value than the price per pound. METAD is actively involved in all aspects of community building, from the construction of roads, clinics and schools to the sponsorship of local sports teams.

This project has helped Guji to come to the fore in local and international markets. METAD has revitalized parts of the country that have been marginalized for decades and has had a profound impact on the value of coffee in the whole region in a short period of time.
