Fiorenza and its inception

Originally known as Officine Fratelli Bambi, La Marzocco was founded in 1927 by craftsman brothers Giuseppe and Bruno Bambi to build their own coffee maker brand.

The first machine, Fiorenza, was designed and commissioned by Mr. Galletti, who later abandoned the design of the espresso machine.

Il marzocco

Since Roman times, Florence has worshipped the Roman god of war "Mars", and the name has gradually evolved into "Marzocco" because of its popularity. With the advent of Christianity, the city, which traditionally symbolized the God of War, became the representative of the "lion", which became the symbol of the Free Republic of Florence and was called "Marzocco".

La Marzocco gets its name from the lion sculpture created by Donatello from 1418 to 1420. The lion sits with one paw supporting the shield emblem of Florence Iris.

Just as the statue of Marzocco represented the conquest of neighboring lands in the Republic of Florence, for every machine designed, manufactured and sold, Marzocco symbolized the company's winning strategy. In fact, in an era when few people drank coffee and few shopkeepers were willing to invest in machines to make this niche drink, every sale was a success.

As such, Giuseppe and Bruno Bambi adopted Marzocco as the symbol of the company, a symbol of victory and conquest, and a symbol of Florence.

La marzocco | 1927

The first La Marzocco machine designed and manufactured by Giuseppe Bambi is equipped with two sets of cooking heads and a vertical boiler with a solid 12-sided shape. The top cover is decorated with a bronze cast "Marzocco" logo. Principle: the hot water and steam pressure produced in the vertical boiler are distributed on the coffee powder through the three-way faucet for coffee extraction. The faucet is located above the main body of the cooking head and can be operated by rotating the handle. When the machine is not needed, the pressure in the brewing handle can be released through the faucet. Estimated production: 30-35 units.
