History of Costa Rican Coffee
When we landed in San Jose, Costa Rica's lush green valleys and beautiful mountains were seen from the air, which was not the tip of the iceberg of wealth in this country. The biodiversity here accounts for about 5% of the world's total, and the number of species per 10,000 square kilometers ranks first in the world. There are hundreds of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, and an amazing number of 10,000 plants and trees!
Costa Rica is also home to many rare and endangered species of flora and fauna, such as the scarlet macaw, the luxurious Watson and the West Indian manatee. 1 rich volcanic soil, cool humid climate, and high altitude mountains, just part of 12 different ecological zones, perfect place for growing excellent coffee.
In the past, some Costa Rican coffees were considered too clean, too balanced, too mild,"classic coffee," and probably just plain boring. However, today there are many farmers and micro-processors who are careful at every step of the production process to produce a wide variety of high-quality coffee.
