Taste of the Harvest--, for example, the winning Cup in Africa is in full swing. In mid-January, the selection of Uganda and Democratic Republic of the Congo projects was held in Kampala, Uganda, and we were invited to join the jury to help select the most delicious projects. The tasting harvest is organized by AFCA (Fine Coffee Association of Africa) in its ten member countries. This year, the competition will only be held in Malawi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Congo, Uganda and Tanzania. Other members include Burundi, Rwanda, Madagascar, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Through regional cup testing activities, AFCA aims to raise awareness of the coffee potential of countries and the international community.
All producers can provide coffee for the national cup test competition. The only standard is that they have at least eight bags of green coffee of this quality. All submitted coffee is rated and ranked by a group of Q and r raters; depending on the country, the harvest tastes like Arabica beans and Robusta beans. The evaluation and grading of coffee should take into account the typical country profile. The top five coffee will be on display at the annual AFCA conference, which will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, until February 5. At the AFCA meeting, each country was promoted to the position of international buyers and roasters through coffee, and the taste of coffee reached the top level of the harvest project. The two highest-scoring coffees became the focus of attention in the cup test of the meeting. At the national level, the promotion of coffee is also promoted to raise awareness among producers and consumers of the importance and possibility of coffee and to introduce producers to the media and tasting harvest competitions. Coffee with a score of more than 80 and passing the green grading and roasting test will receive a Q certificate with detailed information about the flavor of the sample, which helps coffee producers to market their coffee more effectively.
The competitions between Uganda and Congo are held in the Office of the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) in Kampala. A total of about 60 samples were selected in Uganda. The number of samples submitted to the Congo competition is slightly lower. On January 12, after the qualifying session, we joined the National Cup team for coffee cups with more than 80 points for Uganda and Congo. In the end, 10 cups of coffee scored more than 80 points in the Ugandan final. Two beautiful Drugar (dry / natural Ugandan Arabica) from the Sipi Falls region of Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda take the lead with elegant bright and sugary fruits. In the Congo, eight works entered the final selection. Equally vibrant fruit configurations can be found in higher locations. A coffee from Kawa Kabuya in the Bulambo/Isale region of the Congo performed best of all the samples submitted.
