La Ponderosa covers an area of 42 hectares and is part of the "El Zapote y Anexos" farm, which is also owned by the Perez family and was acquired in the 1950s. Over the years, El Zapote has won many awards for excellence, most recently in 2018, when they won second place. La Ponderosa is certified by the Rainforest Alliance and has competed in the Anacafe region.

La Ponderosa is located near the village of Agua Dulce in Cuilco, Huehuetenango, an amazing area of western Guatemala near the Mexican border. Huehuetenango is known for its rich ethnic diversity and the Cuchumatanes Mountains, the highest non-volcanic mountain range in Central America. It is also home to some of the most complex and famous coffees in the country, which often appear in the top 10 of the winning cup competition. This is partly because coffee can grow at incredibly high altitudes (more than 2000 meters above sea level), but also because the dry, hot wind blowing from Mexico's Trent Peck Plain protects the area from frost. These high elevations, coupled with a relatively predictable climate, create high-quality coffee, just like this very special coffee from La Ponde Rosa.
