Akernango

Akernango is located in Chimaltenango province of Guatemala, with an altitude of up to 2000 meters, dense shade and unique ecology. It is one of the highest altitude coffee beans in Guatemala. More than 5000 hectares of coffee farms have fertile volcanoes, mainly located in the two major volcanic mountains, and almost all of them have forests and shade trees, and almost all of the estates are covered, mainly bourbon, as well as some Cattail and Caturra.

The two major volcanoes near Akernango are Volcan de Fuego and Volcan Acatenango. Tierra del Fuego volcanoes continue to erupt, making its coarse and sandy soil rich in fertile minerals and becoming the best local natural fertilizer. In particular, Acatenango is the third peak of volcanoes in Central America, and across the Fuego volcano is the Yattitan Lake region. The Akernan fruit producing area has a special micro-climate. During the day, hot and humid air is brought from the coast under the care of the Pacific Ocean, and dry and cold air from the highlands of Guatemala is received at dawn and night. Due to the large temperature difference between day and night, the coffee in this area has high sweetness and special flavor. The coffee growing area of this area surrounds the Akanango Valley, which is named after the volcano here. In the past, many growers sold coffee to "coyotes", as locals call them, and these people shipped coffee cherries to Antigua and processed them. Antigua has a high reputation for coffee, so coffee in this area can also be sold at a higher price. But this situation is now rare, and now the coffee produced from the Akernango region has become very good, and it has a good source tracing.
