Hongyu black tea, also known as Taiwan Tea No. 18, is a new tea variety developed by the Tea Research Institute in Taiwan, hence the name. Our red jade black tea comes from Yuchi Township near the picturesque Sun Moon Lake in Nantou County, Taiwan. Hongyutai tea variety 18 was recently developed in Taiwan in an attempt to revive black tea production in the country. This variety is bred by Asam strain of Burma (Bmur729) and local wild tea of Taiwan (Bmur607).
